Question 1968 Dodge Dart 270 heater problem

Need help fast, trying to have it mostly good to go by end of month! Two issues so far; I have a '67 Dodge Dart 270 (not a '68 as originally thought) fixing up as surprise for hubby; heater isn't working, neither is radio (antenna isn't hooked up), and repair manual I have isn't real clear on step by step R & R. Can anybody tell me how to diagnose, remove heater and heater core ( if necessary ), or point me to a link that can do that? I'm mechanically inclined but not a mechanic. Thanks!

Is the fan working?
Is the door for heat/defrost working?
If the heater core is not leaking but is getting water/coolant,run a water line in one hose and check flow out the other, that part is good.
If fan is not working, check fuse, ground, switch.
Check to see if control cable did not come off at heat/defrost door under dash or off lever on dash control.

Moparborn, I tried the dash control switch, and nothing happened, no fan etc., first thought was fuse; I will check out all of your suggestions tomorrow; was hoping not to have to put myself upside down in the car, but I guess that's just a Dart thing :-)
