Default timing chain question

about a year ago my dad gave me a 68 valiant rolling chasis and a motor for it..
the motor is a 360 out of a 1974 dodge van (old ambulance) and for the past week or so ive been cleaning up the motor and installing a bunch of new parts...
i took the timing chain cover off and noticed there was about a half inch of slack in the chain...i know you are supposed to replace it if its that bad, but out of curiosity, is there a tensioner for the chain or some way to adjust it? the motor only has 23,000 original miles on it...

i hope this car really gets up and goes when its done...

do yourself a favor and slap some 2.02's in those heads while it's apart.
cheap HP because the '74 ( J ) truck heads flow like X heads on the 340's.
