Default 318 Rebuild, or no?

Alright, well I just got this 72 dart a month ago and the 318 engine runs strong, no somke at all. I want to fix it up, but im not sure how many miles are on this engine. Would it be ok if I didnt rebuild it and just started fixing it up? im not fixing this engine up to its max capability, id be satisfied with around 300hp. what do you think? should the engine be ok?

If it runs as good as you say, I'd leave it alone, my 84 Chrysler has the same engine it just turned 89k and runs like a top. Those 318's have a pretty decent amount of torque.

Yeah, 160hp and around 200-210bs of torque with a 2bbl carburetor is decent. I just want to fix it up to push it over the edge. and the only real flaw with the engine is the timing, a cylinder misses every now and then when it idles.
