What is a Demon?
Pardon my lack of knowledge. I am looking to get into a classic Mopar and I like Demons but, I dont know much about them. Can someone fill me in on what they are all about? Are they an option on a Dart or do they stand alone? Any info would be great PV.
Man, you're going back 35 years! If I remember right, the Dodge Demon/Ply. Duster were almost the same vehicle. Both were pretty cool cars. Ebay has some offerings on them (parts, etc) that might help you out. Just type "dodge demon" into the search block on Ebay's home page....

just a few pics..of a 72 demon, then of a 72 dart. they carried the muscular body of the 70 dart, although im not sure off the top of my head what seperated the two, other than badging, and the tail lights

I know what they look like to know I want a 71 with the split grill , but I want to know if it was just a package to sell Dusters or was it its own car? Did it only come with a 340? or was there an other engine option? I need help. I want to build a Demon that handles, and gets good gas milage, maybe using the new Hemi and a 5 speed tranny? Something different. I have owned Daytonas and Rams most of my life I would like to try something different. PV.
The Demon was the fast back 2-door version of the Dart. It was the Dodge equivalent to Plymouth's Duster, which was the same premise based on the Valiant. They only made them for two years- '71 & '72; after that, it became known as the Dart Sport. Seems the politically correct crowd got their start back in the early '70's, as Chrysler got a lot of heat for having a car line based after a 'devil' character. A few pics attached.

One of my friends bought a 71 Demon to restore. He dropped in a 402 Magnum crate engine and painted it lime green. That was back 3-4 years ago he started restoring it from being in a field. It sounds mean and you can tell it has some engine to back it up. I was going to get a Duster but I found the Dakota I have now. It still has the "old school" technology (318 V8, 44RE auto based on the 904 Torqueflite but updated) etc. It's nice and it still has that classic mopar muscle car exhaust sound that I love! Anyways. good luck in your search for a Demon!
The Demon has many parts in common with the Duster, basically the same car with a few notable exceptions, the Demons tail pannel and tail lights are completely different, and the Demon shared a front clip with the darts of the same years. The Demon could be had with any engine in the six cylinder and LA class small blocks. The front "K" members are different with the 6 cyl and 8 cyl.You need the proper K member for the engine you wish to install, there are several places to get adaptor brackets if you dont wish to change K members. Another area for concern is the rear end,try to find an A body 8.75 in rear, these came stock in the 340 cars and 318 with manual trans cars. My car started life as a 6 cyl grocery getter,it now sports a 11 to 1 340,727 auto with 10 in sonverter,8.75 in rear w/4.10 gears, big bolt pattern front disc brakes(73 318 duster was doner, use a frames and calipers and its a bolt in) Its alot of work, but well worth it,you dont see many demons anymore, good luck in your search
I am still a happy evil owner of a 72 340 demon heres some more info they only built demons two years 71&72 late 72 they started calling them dart sports due to sales .the name demon and also the war lock trucks did not sell very well because of there name plate .production numbers for 1971 are 69,861 with 10,098 equiped with the 340ci .in 1972 there were 39,880 produced with 8,700 equiped with the 340ci .base price for six cyl equiped was 2,343 in 71 and 2,316 in 72 /318 ci equiped 2,467 in 71 and 2,449 in 72 / 340ci equiped 2,721 in 71 and 2,759 in 72 . in 71 the 340ci was rated at 275hp and in 72 it dropped to 240hp .most 340ci equiped demons were painted with a high impact color like b5 blue /c7 plum crazy/e5 bright red /v2 hemi orange/y3 citron yella /w3 brite white /x9 black. my personal demon has a 340ci with w2 heads /mp cam /1.6 ratio mp rockers /headman hustler headers w 2.0 pri and 3.5 collectors 10.8 comp ratio .it has ran 12.5 with a 4 spd and 12.2 with auto 727 with 3800 stall in 1/4 mile with 410 rear gears .can wait to build a stroker for it . so here is my advise if you find a demon BUY IT there very hard to find and with a 340ci even harder .i allways get offers and lookers . here is something i read in an old mag about the demon . PEOPLE DON'T FIND DEMONS / DEMONS FIND PEOPLE .
