318 or 360?
Tom Hoover, one of the godfathers of both the 426 and 340
used to talk about the pros/cons of the
318/340/360
in his 'Direct Connection' talks that went
around the country in the 70s.
Hoover also recommended the mixing of parts
to get a 'Hoover Special' V8

Tom Hoover is still alive
and smarter than ever
having worked many years after his Chrysler career ended in layoff
at General Electric where his skills GREATLY improved the
big diesel engines in their locomotives & generator sets.

I have met Tom, and a close friend of mine has THE Hoover 360 which was built in the 70's for Toms personal "M" code '69 B-Cuda.
This is a quote from Mark off another Mopar board about Tom and his motor.
Quote from Mopar.com by Tom Hoover on the 360.

The engine I bought for my car came from Tom Hoover's personal car.
This engine Tom built in the early 70's to show that small blocks could run with Big Blocks, especially with Insurance companies cracking down on performance cars. He found an original M code '69 Barracuda that was sitting at Sox & Martin's garage and put this engine in to use in his drag racing clinics. It eventually became more of a show car and after 30 years he sold it to John Arruzza. John wanted to put a Hemi in the Barracuda and offered it to me. Tom is a very gracious man and was excited to see his old engine. He visited Saturday and brought Tom Coddington by on Sunday. The engine was written up by Popular Hot Rodding in their February 1976 issue. If anyone is interested in reading about it, I'll try to scan it and post it. One more neat thing is the oil pan for the engine was custom built for Tom by Don Carlton (MoTown Missile). The engine is a 360 bored out to 371 with T/A heads, intake and carbs. The car ran a best of 12.38 weighing in around 3000 lbs.
