what type of primer?
i just bought a 97 Neon thats flame red (PR4) and theres some bare spots and i was wondering what type of primer would be best? Duplicolor had like 3 or 4 different primers and i didn't know which one i should get.
theres a small part onthe fender that had some surface rust and i sanded that away and then there was some on the hood that i haven't quite gotton rid of totally but in order to do it i'll have to basiclly cut like an inch off and then bondo(maybe?) to make it smooth...its at the bottom of the hood so only way to see it is to lift the hood up.
This is exactly my best area.... but what I would do is:
- grind/sand all the rust off.
- Use the duplicolor self etching primer for where the hardcore rusted spots were and the filler primer for the larger bare metal spots.
- See if the majority of patching could be done with fiber glass for the hood...
- sand that
- then see if a filler or "bondo" is needed.
I only say use fiber glass, because I hate bondo and fiber glass seems too come out better if done correctly. Also, if you just want one can of primer to buy, the Duplicolor "selfetching" primer should be good, as long as most of it is bare metal.
