I think that's a bit extreme, lol. It will strip the wax, and yes, can damage the paint, but people use kerosene on paint (for the extremes) safely.

Meguiar's Bug and Tar Remover works excellent for both bugs and tar. 1.5 year old tar on my black car came off in about 30 seconds with no damage to the paint.

My attempt at humor....I know repeated use will damage the metal, but a few times here and there should be alright,

you should contact BP they might give you some $ for your pain/suffering and losses due to tarballs building up on your car.

I'm sure you knew, I just thought I ought to say something before someone starts freaking out the next time a drop of gas gets on the paint while filling up, lol.

I usualy use gas. it works great, but you have to wax the area afterwards.
