2004 'n 5.9 Cummins questions
Hi Gang,
Im a little new hear but I will say 'the info is great and the attitudes greater"
I bought my first Diesel Truck... July past...04 2500 ram with 5.9 (130KM)
I have been searching and reading threads on here looking for additional info on a plan I have to..
1. Add a chip
2. Add a CAI
3. upgrade exhaust.
Truck is strickly stock with the Dodge "in tank LP Fuel Pp"...???...so Ive been told but yet to check more.
Truck works fine and I have no plans to race it but I was hoping that in one thread you could offer advice on my three questions above. I've heard that doing these 3 upgrades, it may stress my tranny.....true??
thx all and look forward to your advice..
all the best

1. There are numerous tuners available for the 5.9; such as Edge, Smarty and others. Not sure if EFI is available for that year or not. Go to a web site for diesel performance and you should find more information.
2. S&B CAI
3. Stick with stock size pipe but go with better aftermarket muffler.
4. Gauges: Transmission temp, fuel rail pressure, EGT as minimum.
You will be ok with just the CAI and exhaust. you may gain 10hp between the two.
Supposedly the stock tranny can take up to 100hp extra as long as it is not abused. The makes of the Smarty Jr (100hp max gain) says it is safe for a stock tranny.
Good luck.
