98 Cummins 24 valve, 190K.

Just changed oil and filter in transmission. Filled with 3-1/2 qts Valvoline ATF 4 synthetic. Engine mildly warm. Run thru gears. No oil on dip stick. Added 1/2 qt, still no oil on dip stick. Manual says 4 quarts is supposed to be all that is needed.

I am second owner. Could original owner have put bigger pan on? Is there any other reason for it to need more oil?

 

Just kept on adding ATF until hit marks. Stock pan on cummins must be deeper than V8 & V10.

 

ya i just did mine too and the manual said 4 qts but i think all said and done i put in almost 7
