Default Harmonic balancer replacement.

98 Cummins 24 Valve, 190K.

Was changing timing cover oil seal. Rubber dampener was 35% gone.

New one is $400. Picked up used one from salvage yard $100.

Question: is balancer balanced to itself or to crankshaft?

Can I just bolt on a used one?

its not really ballanced to anything, the rubber isolator just knocks all the harmonic vibrations out of the rotating assembly to pevent cracks/failures

Default Thanks

Thanks for reply. It just made me wonder why the manual has you mark position of balancer before removing.
