I have an 2005 dodge ram 3500 5.9 cummins with 161,000 miles. Truck surges when putting transmission in to gear. Have change the fuel filter and drained the fuel out. I am not getting any DTC's and will not respond back to idle fast, even if I rev up the engine in park, it does not return to idle quick enough. Fuel pump is operating, can visually see the fuel going in to filter housing.

 

i'd check the lines to the injectors and check your pump even though it is pumping it sounds like it might not be doing so correctly. good luck with the problem.
