Default ETC and hard shift

Hello I have a 2012 dodge avenger. My problem is that it has started to hard shift between 2nd and 3rd. Also the etc light will come on around the same time. I have cleaned the etc sensor and checked the play in the throttle body all seemed fine. What could be my problem?

You could start by cleaning the throttle body.

I checked for a TSB that could be related to this, but was unable to find one. Keep us posted on how everything runs once you follow jkeaton's advice. If the symptoms persist, I would recommend letting a FCA dealership look into this.
