Good evening, I have a 2007 Dodge Avenger JS SXT 2.4L 4 cylinder 4 speed auto sedan currentlysitting on 155854 on the odometer. Today I was on way to my child's appointment and as I was stopped at a red light my check engine light came on and hasn't gone away. When got home called my mechanic (got an appointment next week) they told me in the meantime check my oil and fluids and battery. My oil a d fluids look fine and at normal levels. To get to my battery I have to take the tyre off and get into wheel well to get to the battery but I'm not comfortable doing that while my young children are around. Besides checking the battery has anyone got any advice as to what I can check my self in the meantime till it does into the mechanics?

 

Take it to an auto parts store and have them read the code. Your mechanic is guessing without knowing that.
