Now I did it!!!
I traded my trusty and fun-to-drive 2003 Dodge SX (with a stick) for a clean 2007 Caliber SXT in black with 27,000 km on the clock, a deal I could not pass on since they offered me $6000 (CAD, but these days it's the currency to go for!) in exchange for my SX.A test drive quickly convinced me that this was the car I wanted to drive for the next few years!
Apart from its excellent driving abilities it offers all the convenience of a huge cargo capacity, a cool looks and leading-edge powerplant technology (2.0 VVT with CVT).
Can't wait to take delivery Tuesday the 23rd, I also got a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty to 100,000 km with $0 deductible and roadside assistance, which should remover a few worries in case something goes wrong.
It is a Chrysler Canadaservice contract code 415, and it is indeed not cheap at $1870. But it includes $0 deductible on any claim, including roadside assistance and covers air conditioning, suspension, brake components, engine cooling, fuel system (ever got the P0442 code?).

Since the Caliber is still a new model (with a quantity of "unknowns") and I want to keep the car for several years I thought it was worth the price. With my PT Cruiser a few years back something went wrong with the front suspension just after it hit 60000km and the repairs were covered by a similar plan.
It extends the basic warranty of 3 years/60000 km to be equal to the powertrain warranty of 5 years/100000 km. At about $375 per year I think it can pay back easily if anything goes wrong, especially when dealers charge $100 an hour labour rates and ridiculous prices for the parts.

So, you are telling me that your paid $1870 for and extended warrenty that only goes 2 years more beyond the existing one. That is a rip off. I am a low mileage driver and look for years instead of mileage. Chrysler used to have 7 years. What happened to that ??
If you are a high mileage driver, like 15-20k per year, then it is worth it......

This warranty also includes 24h roadside assistance in Canada/USA with towing, battery boost (useful in a cold country like here!) delivery of fuel, emergency flat tire change, lock and key service, provision for trip interruption, allowance for car rental...
For the repairs it really kicks in when you get to 60,001 km but you get to take it when buying the vehicle. In the past I had problems with the suspension, A/C and fuel system past the basic warranty period, and they were all covered by this kind of warranty. It's like insurance, you may never use it, but if you get unlucky, you are glad you subscribed! It's only $30 per month if you put it on a 5-year car loan. Anything happens to the car for the next 4-5 years and I am fully covered. Peace of mind when you're on the road!
The only car makers left that offers old-style 7 years 160,000 km are the Koreans!
