Question Dodge Caliber alarm system malfunction - false alerts

Dear all,

I'm Markus from Germany.
My wife has a '08 Dodge Caliber, 2.0 CRD.
Since a few weeks we have false alerts from the alarm system as well as a drained battery after 2-3 days not using the car.

The authorized workshop told me that there is a battery in the alarm horn/siren which is getting weak when getting older.
They also told me that the battery can't be replaced. They offered to change the alarm horn/siren, which will cost approx. 500USD.

As this is a lot of money compared to the residual value of the car, my question would be:
What will happen if I just unplug the horn/siren? Will this be detected as manipulation and engage the immobilizer?
Or can I just do so?

Thanks for any answer, comment, etc.
Markus

Without additional details such as: is this an aftermarket alarm? What brand? Who did the install? etc, It is difficult to offer advise except for just unplugging it and see what happens.

Thanks for your quick answer!

It's the alarm system that came together with the car, when it was new.

Thanks,
Markus

Just want to keep you in the loop.
I have just unplugged the horn - everything works fine again now.
