Default 2008 Caliber struts. Are they interchangeable, passenger to driver side?

Hi, I have a 2008 Dodge Caliber 2.0L NOT SRT. I recently ordered rear struts, the 2 struts are identical. I put the passenger side strut on and it fit perfect. The driver side does not because the angle of the bottom bolt is facing the wrong direction. Of corse this makes sense because the strut only goes on one way at the top and so the bottom bolt angle would be facing toward the rear, not the front like it should. The company says that is what dodge recommends and the 2 are suppose to be interchangeable. Can you verify if this is true or not?
