TIPM Issue
A while back my 07 Caliber started intermittently shifting into limp mode with a high trans temp light any time I drove it. I took it to a dealership who said it was the TCM then wasted 600 of my dollars replacing it only to tell me that it turned out to be the TIPM that fried the TCM in the first place! Not willing to give the dealer an additional $1200 throw in the air and roll around in like some rap video, I limped home with a new TCM and the same damn symptoms and went and found a TIPM at Pick n Pull. I put the junkyard TIPM in and test drove the car. It no longer goes to limp mode but now seems to struggle knowing when to shift, especially downshifting to low gears. I realized that’s a dumb thing to say when talking about a CVT but it’s the only way this guy (I know next to nothing about cars) can describe it. Oh and bonus, the speedometer suddenly doesn’t track. I did a hard reset by disconnecting the battery and connecting the cables together overnight. Reconnected the battery and drove it again. Same results. I put the original TIPM back in. Same results!! Weird shifting and no speedometer. WTF, over. Was the dealer right and did I cause more damage with a junkyard TIPM?
