Codes P0700, P161B, P0602
Greetings! I have a 2007 Dodge Caliber with the auto CVT. The car turns on, but does not run when placed into Drive. The RPM will go up, and the car does not move much, if at all, during this time. Vehicle was running fine until suddenly it would no longer move once started up at a parking lot. Check Engine Light came on, and I was able to pull the following codes:
P0700: Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
P0602: Control Module Programming Error / (Engine Control Module is not programmed, Wrong ECM, Faulty ECM)
P161B: Battery Disconnected / TCM Internal
Obviously not something anybody ever wants to see. I'd like to fix the car at home if possible, or at least keep shop hours (and cost) to a minimum. This brings me to some questions, as I'm not familiar with cars and their electrical systems, and I'd sooner junk it than take it to the dealer for diagnosis since they've stopped offering free lube.
Has anybody encountered these codes? Is it a faulty TCM? Could it be a sensor somewhere that is related, or fuses maybe? If the TCM is the culprit, can I just get one from a junkyard or eBay and plug it in, or is it something that has to be coded to that particular VIN or something? One code says "CMP programming error." Is the ECM referring to a different module than the TCM, and are they related? Could they both be defective at the same time? My worst fear is that it's the actual CVT itself and I'd need a new transmission. I'd like to get a process of elimination started to determine what the solution could be, but I currently don't know where to start or what I even need to complete this fix.
Any help & guidance is appreciated!
