Sorry... my bad. The 21.1 MPG was the only independent MPG rating I could find... and it was for the AWD test vehicle.
Sorry… the 21.1MPG was for the AWD model. None others were independently tested.
Trip computer in 2.4-liter, CVT, AWD test vehicle showed 21.1 mpg mainly around town.

SE: 0 TO 60 MPH: 11.6 seconds (mfr.)
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../FREE/60213001
Acceleration: Adequate at best, regardless of powertrain. No opportunity to time, but Dodge quotes 10.8-11.2 sec 0-60 mph for models we tested.

A Neon SXT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.5 seconds

I hate to say it, but you're smoking crack or something. The Caliber gets nearly the same gas milage as the Neon SXT (based on EPA estimates). The engines are far better, have more power, and are more efficient. The Japanese engine (engine in the Neon, aka Mitsubishi Engine) really isn't any better. And there's no way in hell is a stock Neon SXT 2.slow liter going to even come close to a Caliber R/T, or even an SXT with new 2.0 Liter.

Well I actually drove a Caliber AWD (R/T) MYSELF, and the trip computer said 23.8. That was after four other test drives by other people that day.
So sorry if I dont take the word of someone who wrote an article who may not have driven the vehicle properly over first hand experience.
Also, I dont really care, at all, what the 0 to 60 is on the vehicle, and I dont know why you would either.
What road do you drive on where you need to get from 0 to 60 in 8.5 seconds. This is the stupidest thing that people obsess over, and its people that dont know better.
Speed limits are hardly ever over 55 on roads that are not expressways, and if a cop saw you doing 0-60 flooring it, he would pull you over for excessive show of speed.
And if you think you need it for drag racing, you dont know anything about drag racing. Drag Racing is not about your 0-60 times, all drag racing, except heads-up racing, is more dependent on consistancy than speed, as well as reaction times.
So tell me, why in the world would I want to trade a two second difference in 0-60 for all the benefits of the caliber.

Haha...I know what you mean! Out of all the dealerships around here, only 1 dealer has 1 Caliber SXT on the lot. Everyone says they have lots on order, but none on the lot. I think it goes to show you how well its selling right now.

Very well said! mperry speaking from an 18 year olds perspective where all they care about is the stereo system and the amount of power it has. Who cares what the 0-60 times are. The speed limit is still 30 MPH through town and 65-75 MPH on the highways, so where are you going to utilize any of that wonderful power that the Neon supposedly had? Also, if you're trying to go from 0-60 in 8.5 seconds all the time in a Neon, its NOT going to get 36 MPG, or anything even close to that.

I am sure it is just the teenager thing. I am only 20 (for another month), and I would have probably been somewhere around that level when I was younger, or even now, if I had not had as much experience with cars as I had. I think the people that are all about 0-60 and stuff like that are the people that know the least about cars, and think "Fast and the Furious" is an accurate depiction of cars and racing.

BTW, the 21.1MPG was for city driving (mostly). 23.8MPG is a *long* way from good mileage, but pretty good for AWD. Odd, since the tranny supposedly improves mileage by 8%, and yet the EPA for this car is 10% less than the EPA ratings for last year's car, even with the 1.8L engine. Hmm... an odd "improvement" in engine.
It appears Dodge has finally given up on the economy car market. This year they received the final blow... and they realized they can't compete. This was probably the Civic's doing. That car killed the Neon, with its better trim, comfort and performance. This year, it rolled out w/ 40MPG and 15% better performance... at the same price range. That could explain why Dodge went with the RAM styling on this rig. (Poorer aerodynamics, but looks like a truck.)
Right now they are behind in orders and the Civic has been clearing the lots as fast as they show up, for the last 6 months. Dodge's big sellers have been high performance autos, so they went with what has worked for the past 8 years. I wonder if Dodge will spend the huge bucks (or reverse engineer) to come out with an economy car in the future.
1.8 liter and 2.0 engines get 26/32 based on EPA estimates (which are never right). Neon EPA estimates are 28/36. So its not far off at all. It kinda sounds like you're twisting the 1.8 liter engine to the 2.4 liter AWD gas milage. So its pretty damn economical. I'd find it hard to believe you've seen on of these in person? Don't comment on the looks and size until you've done so. Its no bigger than a Neon, just a little taller. So its no truck, and its no where near the size of a small SUV.
Ok, 0-60, since when do you get on the FW from a stand still? 0-60 times aren't that important as much you like to think they are. All you want is bragging rights there. Most of the time you'll be going like from 30 MPH to 60 MPH which isn't that big of a deal in nearly any car you have.
The Neon is in no way a better car than the Caliber, bottom line! The price is lower (remember, if it takes massive incentives to sell a car, thats a bad thing!), you get more features, better options, far better engines, and an all around better car. There's no point in arguinig this any further. I'm sick and tired of hearing all the die hard Neon fans **** and moan about the Neon being gone and how ****ty the Caliber is of a car to replace it with their brain washed Neon was a better car facts.

Sorry dudes... but have long passed my teens. I don't know where you live, but here the FW traffic is 60+, with very short ramps, so 0-60 speed is important. I use that speed to scoot so I can safely merge with traffic, rather than merging at 45MPH. Even w/ my foot in the carb & winter fuel, it gets 30MPG... and probably 10% better this month, as summer fuel rolls out.

And as I pointed out, C&D gave the Caliber the same 0-60 as you reported for the Neon, so you still dont show me any real improvement.
Also, if you are getting 30 MPG with your foot to the floor, turn that car in to Dodge for testing, because that is a magic vehicle. The guy in the cubicle next to me is a huge Dodge fan, and has two Neon's, one for his daughter, and an older one that he sometimes drives instead of his Dakota. He said he has never seen 30 MPG except in highway driving, but he does get 27-28 combined.
Hell, if the Neon was getting that, then it would be beating out cars like the Fusion, which our Fusion with the lowest, but highest MPG, engine and a 5 speed Manual gets 27.7 city driving and 32+ highway.
So like I said, if thats what you get, then sell that thing back to Dodge because I am sure they want to extract the Pixies that are running your engine.

Funny how our comments were almost identical too.
