Default Problems With the AWD System

Has anyone heard about problems with the AWD system in the Caliber. I talked to one dealership and they told me Dodge was having a problem getting a certain part for the AWD Caliber, they said it was a part contingency (sp?) or something like that. Any news about that?

I've heard that Caliber R/T's will take a little longer than SXT or SE models. Also you have to wait until your dealer can actually order one. Not just any dealer can order one when ever they want and expect it to be built that same month. Some people have ordered their Caliber in March and are STILL waiting for it to be either built and/or to arrive. I know it sucks, but you're not the only one waiting....

I myself would NEVER buy and extended warranty for my car(s). From what I've experienced from other people having extended warranty on their vehicles, 9 times out of 10, whatever breaks ISN'T covered under the warranty. You're taking a huge change that something will break that will actually pay for the extended warranty and if nothing breaks, its a huge waste of money. By the time it gets to the point where things are breaking all the time with it, I've usually already gotten rid of it, then its someone else's problems. IMO, extended warranties are a waste of money.

Extended warranties are peace of mind. You don't buy it with the intent to save money.

That said I have had excellent service from Chryslers Maxi-Care warranties. I had a 75,000 miles Maxi-Care warranty on my 2001 Ram. Through the years I owned it the warranty paid for many minor issues that added up to just about what I paid for it. Then at 76,000 miles the transmission solenoid and sensor went out. While the mechanic worked on that he noticed odd engine noises that I also heard intermitanly. The noise was the water pump. They made the repairs at a total cost of about $850. I then called Chrysler Warranty customer service. Even though I was 1000 miles past the extended warranty period they agreed to pay the bill no questions asked.

The Maxi-Care warranty does cover almost the entire vehicle. It paid to have a few hoses and gaskets replaced which is unusual for an extended warranty. About the only items not covered are wearable items, brake pads, rotors, tires etc.
