Caliber Click
From Engineering:
"Customer complains of severe pop, click or ping noise from exhaust during cooldown. Noise is above normal cooldown ticking noises heard on other exhaust systems. Source of the noise is the slip joint at the resonator outlet. The cause is the joint building too tight at the supplier and not allowing the internal resonator tube to slide within the joint. A design change was made to relieve this tight fit. This will reduce the cooldown ticking noise from the exhaust to a normal level.
The muffler/resonator assembly should be replaced if a customer complains of this condition. "
Clean point in production is 5/1/2006.

Thanks for the update! How did you run across that important bit of news? I went to the service dept. about 3 weeks ago and they said they hadn't heard anything about the noise problem- Oh, but it was normal. I knew better, and I figured there'd be a letter eventually. I'm not complaining about the service dept., I just don't think they knew what to do about the situation. I'll take this info and talk to them again. Thanks again for the info.
I took delivery of my R/T on 05/29 and have the "click"... I will poke around and see if I can find the build date (decode the VIN number)...
I was looking on the NHTSA's site at TSBs and haven't seen one for this yet.. like others have said, if the click isn't gone by 6k, then it has to get fixed.
On a side note.. the more I drive it the more I like it....

I took my Caliber in on 6/01, and told the service guy about my click, and how engineering was supposed to have sent out a memo. He looked it up on his computer, with me looking over his shoulder. There was nothing about that click! He said to check back later. I will.
I'm new to this forum, but I to have the Caliber problems. After I drive for a while the car starts to make this sneezing, clicking type noise from the bottom and it continues after the car is turned off. If I drive over 65 it starts to rattle from the passenger side, I took it to the dealership to check it out, they claim it needs a new Exhaust Resonator, I hope their right because I know nothing about an exhaust resonator. They never even road with me to confirm what I was hearing. I would hate to have to keep going up there, because they want to get me in and out. Can anyone confirm what a Exhaust Resonator does or problems they may cause?
I have the Silver SXT and I too have the clicking/snapping noise from the exhaust. It is NOT only a normal cooling down of the exhaust. It does it all the time. And it is noticable. People who ride with me say " What's That Noise"? Mine goes in for the 3000 mile oil change on monday and I also asked them to look into a fix for the clicking noise. I'll post the results on Monday after the service.
