trans problem down shifting

trans problem down shifting
when i go to stop my 1991 caravan,it drops a gear = at least thats what it feels like =from 30mph to 25mph nothing happends from 25it hits a gear iand rapidly slows down as if it was in low gear..anyone have any ideas...bob
