97 Grand Caravan Radio Removal
I have the factory installed AM/FM CD/Tape player installed in my 97 Grand Caravan.
The CD player is not working, and gets an ERR message on all CD insertions.
The size of the stock radio and custom wiring would make it harder to replace the unit with a third party stereo, or I would just put an MP3 Player in it's place.
Although I can see it being more expensive than a third party stereo, I hope to find a replacement AM/FM CD/TAPE player to stick in. Before I begin tearing the dash apart, does anyone have a link or picture of the location of the clips/screws or other securing points for the radio removal?
If anyone can recommend a replacement MP3 player, that will fit (or has a kit) I would appreciate the suggestion. The trouble with replacing STOCK Radios is that all those features, like speaker control and such may be lost. When I did this in my Ford Aerostar, I lost rear controls and a hockey-sock of features that only the manufacturer's radio contained.
Suggestions?
Thanks

I have a 96 and had the same problem!! There is only a few screws that hold the radio after you remove the trim which just pulls off!! After you get the radio out take the top cover off. Then get a q-tip and gasoline antifreeze and way deep inside you can see the laser lens, take and give that lens a good wipe with the q-tip dipped in the gasoline antifreeze! Then put it back together and listen to your cds!! If your asking why gasoline antifreeze, it has alcohol and ether or ethanol or something like that! But when it evaporates it leaves a clean film across the lens, so I've been told and does work!
Hey, I was most worried about pulling the cover ring off. I could not find any securing screws, and didn't want to snap the face plate off. Once I get to the Radio, I think there are only a few screws, I just could not find them (or a way in) through that cover/face/ringplate.
Thanks

My recollection says there are 4 screws (2 are recessed at the top of the trim panel) and (2 are behind a flat cover plate at the bottom that just pulls off). Hope you didn't just yank and snap yours.
