Belt falls off 1997 Voyager
Does anyone know where I can get the Gates 38379K in Canada? The belt has come off my 1997 Grand Voyager too many times to count. Rain or no rain! My mechanic can't seem to locate the part in the Vancouver area let alone anywhere in Canada. I've read there is a Goodyear part 49215K as well, is it as good? Thank you for your help!
Missy,
I had this problem on the GC I have. A new belt tensioner fixed the problem of the belt coming off. It seems if one cranks on the tensioner a little too hard to get the belt on, it tweeks the tensioner just enough to make the belt not ride correctly. (Who me I would never crank too hard.)

Richard,
Thank you for the advice but we puta new tensioner on. Then the powersteering pump went and the problem got worse so we put another tensioner on and it still comes off whenever it feels like it, wet or dry conditions. It's very frustrating especially whenwe've had the vehicle for so manyyears andthe belt never once came offthen one day I hit a big puddle and it has been downhill since then. Just looking at the Gates part I'm certain it will be the answer. Thanks again![sm=deal.gif]

When problems like this start showing up it's usually a pulley that's out of alignment with the others.
You can use a straightedge as a guide to check for this.Place the straightedge across one pulley and see if it lines up with the front edge of the next.If you cant get a yardstick into the small area's try using a wooden dowel.
Driving through the water might have bent a support bracket on one of the engine accessories. Also make sure the new tensioner can move freely on it's support at the engine.
