A.C . Recharge 2000GC
I've always had good results with the recharge kits but there are several buts! If you suddenly lost your A/C charge, you do need to find out why and where it went. However, many times on older vehicles you can slowly lose a charge through a worn compressor seal, bad O rings on the pipes, or just permeable hoses. With a slow leak you don't lose your oil charge and usually the system hasn't gone down to "open" staus in which water vapor gets in. I have one older car and a motorhome that take about a can a year and cool just great. With a case of R134 from Sam's club at $3.50 a can, I'll be just happy to top them off once in a while. I do have full fledged recharge capability, but in this case I won't bother.
In that case I would go with a recharge hose. I would also get an inexpensive low pressure side gage that shows if you are in the ballpark. They look like a tire pressure gage and you apply it to the low pressure side fill port. They run about 10 to 10 bucks.
Picked up a can of 134a+ today. How many pounds does the system take on a 2000 GC. Guage has a range of 25-45 LBS for full. Just want to know if I should be low or high in the "filled zone". Also, I assume the low pressure fill is the black dust cover right in the front left. Just double checking so I dont FIU. Thanks for the input, heading out for a trip tomorrow morning and just trying to be safe since Ive never done this before. Gotta love taking $75 off the stealership doing the same thing for me. Thanx Guys!!!
The high and low pressure valve have different diameter to charge you have to use the low valve. The hose that you buy at walmart or in other car parts shop will fit only in the low pressure valve!
