Default Leaking Minivan transaxle - any ideas?

Hi folks,

My wife's 2000 Grand Voyager has developed a serious transmission leak and I'm stumped as to where it's coming from. The van has a 3.3 L with the 41TE automatic with about 115,000 miles on the odometer. The transmission works flawlessly until all of the fluid has leaked out. When I inspected it, there is quite a bit of fluid pooled on top of the back of the transaxle, but not too many ways to have gotten there. The lines to the transmission cooler appear to have been seeping, but not enough to account for the amount of oil on the opposite side of the transaxle.

The only possibilities I can think of are an axle seal failure or a sensor or switch (that isn't easily seen) that has began to leak.

Any ideas would be appreciated as a trip to the shop doesn't sit well with my wallet right now.

Thanks,
David

sounds as if you may have a front pump seal leaking, the fluid gets to the top of the transaxle through the crank sensor. or more seiously and probably the problem is the diff pin broke through the case and is leaking into the bellhousing! the car will still drive but leaks trans fluid this is a fairly common problem especially in winter after a snowstorm but I have seen them in the middle of summer. either way the trans will have to be removed!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Sorry for the late reply.

You were right about the diff pin. Oh Well - new transmission is cheaper than new car.
