need advice on cleaning engine internals!

Default need advice on cleaning engine internals!

hi
the cylinder head is removed for a head gasket job and i wanted to clean everything before i put it backall together.

some dirt got into the camshaft area is there anything i can use to make all the dirt go to the oil pan ?

thx for all you info!

You can spray the area with brake cleaner. That should loosen the crud and flush it down the large drain holes. Then pour in transmission fluid to wash it all the way down into the crankcase. Then drain the crankcase and let it air out from the brake cleaner. Then put in fresh oil.

Or, you can use a non-flammable brake cleaner and a shop vac and spray with the nozzle real close to where you're working. You'll have to toss the shop vac filter after you do this. And, you still should flush with trans fluid before you button it up.

can i remove the lifter by hand and clean them whit brake cleaner.

mitchell1 talk about a tool to remove them..

Yes, they make a lifter removal tool. If varnish has accumulated on the bottom side of the lifter, it makes it very difficult to lift it out of the bore. That's where the tool helps. But if they're not varnished up, you can lift them out by hand.
