I am new to this site and I am looking for help.

I have a 03 dodge caravan with a bad water pump. the problem I am having is trying to get the new pump in place. it seems that the pump shaft is too long and it hits the frame rail. I had the same problem removing the old one, the only way I got it off was that I ended up breaking the impeller, it's plastic.

But it is that same way the new pump, and the old pump is identical to it. there is not enough room between the engine and the frame rail to slide the new pump in it's place? what do I need to do to get the room to replace the pump?

Anyhelp and I will be eternally grateful.

Just finished my 2003 water pump. Thank God for a 10mm gear wrench stubby. Made the job for me much easier.
