help my gas gauge needle keeps going up and down the dial and the low gas light keeps going on and off, is this a common problem on these vans, could it be a bad sender unit in the gas tank, and how difficault are they to change. Thanks for any addvice.
I have a 94 Grand Caravan, and it does basically the same thing. From approximately 4 gallons down to eight gallons down. the gauge will bottom out, chime, warning light, etc. after reaches half tank, gauge works fine. This is almost assuredly a bad sender, and requires dropping the gas tank to replace it. My opinion, use the miles traveled as a good estimate of how much gas you have, and replace the sensor only if you have to drop the tank for a bad fuel pump, then do both at same time. IMHO, thelabor and hassle is just not worth it for a minor inconvenience.

yes your right there nmlhaus, I wont bother with it unless the pump quits, the only problem is my wife usually drives it and thinks it is going to quit on her, she's not very mechanically minded. Thanks anyway though.
Yeah, but there's always a better approach. Just point out to her that looking at the trip meter costs nothing, and a new gas guage will probably top $300, parts and labor. I find that putting repairs into dollars and sense (sic) usually does the trick. Have a great one!
