Can someone give me an idea of the difficult level in changing a water pump on a 1999 plymouth voyager 3.3? It would be up on ramps with only novice level experience in auto repair. I do basic things like disc breaks and tuneups. Thanks for advise.

 

It isn't that hard so you should be fine.
I'd get a Haynes manual or the equivalent to get an idea of what you have to remove and how to replace the parts.That's a lot easier than trying to remember how everything goes back together.

 

remove the belt 15mm wrench
remove the water pump pulley
remove the water pump
reverse order to install, about a 15 minute job

 

I'm a little confused holtzer1. Is the timing belt assembly involved in changing the water pump? I was told differently be a garage. You describe it differently in 2 different emails. The 1999 plymouth is a 3.3L.

 

You use the 15mm to loosen the tensioner to slip the belt off, not remove the tensioner. The rest of the flow chart is brief but accurate.

 

1. Disconnect the neg battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling System.
3. Remove the Serpentine belt.
4. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly and lower fender shield.
5. Remove the water pump pulley.
6. Remove the 5 mounting screws and remove the pump from engine.
7. Discard the O-ring.
To install:
8. Using a new O-ring, install the pump to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
9. Install the water pump pulley.
10. Install the fender shield and tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the Serpentine belt.


you dont HAVE to remove the battery cable...


the 3.0 is the engine that requires timing belt removal, not the 3.3 or 3.8
