Just bought a usaed 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and it has a remote keyless entry system. It only came with one key. How do you program a new remote? Any help would be great. Thanks

 

From my reading, it appears you must have two programmed keys before you can program another. (Of course the dealer can program one for you [:'(])Perhaps an expert can chime in here ...

 

Thats correct in order to do it yourself you must have 2 keys already otherwise its off to the dealer and they will charge you upwards of $100 to program the key .

 

Wrong, all you need is one programmed keyfob. Make sure the second keyfob is the same part number as I've found one doesn't always work even if they look similar.

To program:
1) Turn ignition toRUN (the click right before the engine cranks)
2) On the working one, press and hole the UNLOCK button for 4 seconds. While holding down UNLOCK, press down the PANIC button for 6 more seconds. Release both buttons at the same time. You will hear the computer chime, this means you're in program mode.
3)Within 30 seconds push LOCK, UNLOCK buttons on the SECOND keyfob.
4) Turn the ignition to OFF.
5) Verify the keyfobs work.
