Rear Drum Brakes
I have a 99 Voyager and I want to replace the rear drum brakes. I have only done disc brakes. What is the difficulty level and what tools do I need? Also a parts list will help. Is it more then just pads and drums? Can someone walk me though it. I do have a service shop manual that I will also use. My mechanical level is high. Just never did drum brakes. Thanks in advance.
Depending on the condition of your brakes, it could get pretty involved. At the very least, you'll need to replace the shoes, getthe drums "turned" (many auto parts stores do it), then bleed the brake lines afterwards. If the drums are too worn, you'll need to replace them, too. Then there's the condition of the springs and the wheel cylinders to consider...
Whatever you do, be sure to adjust the new shoesso they're tight against the inside of the drum.
A good resource is the pertinent "Chilton's" manual (often found in the local library or book store) for a step-by-step description.
Good luck.

I would suggest changing the springs when you replace the shoes they are only a few dollars you will also need to get some brake spring pliers and a hold down tool to make it easier one thing you can do is pull both drums that way you use the other side to refer too also call around on prices for getting them turned and how much new drums are as last time I did the rears on my caravan and it was cheaper to buy new ones than to get the drums turned what I aslo suggest is get a can of brake clean and spray down the backing plates before putting the new shoes on also you can very easily rebuild the wheel cylinders and last time I did it the rebuild kit was3.00 for both sides
