2006 Grand Caravan Starter Draws 180 Amps?
We've been having some strange starting problems off and on lately. Today, for example, was one of those days.
I went to start the van, and you can here it going "click click click" but won't start. I noticed that the RPM and Speedometer both, somewhat slowly, went all the way to max, and then back to 0, and then the fuel went to 0 before going to where it should at the same time. Try again, "click click click" but no start. 3rd time, same thing. I push the van out of the garage, and jump start it with my car, and it fired right up right away.
I remove the battery and take it to be tested (loaned my volt meter to a friend who hasn't returned it yet), and the battery was at 72%, but the test came back as a good battery and they were able to charge it to 100%. I took the battery back home, hooked it back up, and the van started right up.
So I take the van to have the altenator tested, and it tests fine as well. They did a starter test inbetween the battery test and altenator test. The started was pulling 180amps, which seems high to me. The guys at the parts store didn't have much more help for me than that.
So is 180 amp draw a sign of a bad starter? Could that be causing my issues of not starting and low charge on my battery?
How hard is it to replace a starter in a 2006 with the 3.8L V6?
Thanks!

OK. I just found out about 20 minutes ago that my 14 year old daughter and one of her friends was sitting in the van the night before just listening to XM radio. I don't know how long they were in there, but it was at least 20 minutes with the engine not running. I assume that is what dropped the battery level to 72% because since then I have tested the battery level myself and it is at "100%" just like normal...
So what about the 180AMP pull from the starter? Is that normal for the starter on the 3.8L V6? Maybe it is and everything is fine since I figured out what caused the battery drain, but I want to make sure.
