Default Shifting from park needs no brake

1999 Grand Caravan 3.8L with auto stick.

Recently I have no had to apply the brake to shift out of park. Any clue on where the first place to look is. I have looked in the Steering column and could not find what I am looking for.

The brake switch provides ground to the shift interlock solenoid. Start by checking out the brake switch. If that checks out, move on to the solenoid in the steering column

I find this kind of interesting, i neither of my vans, 95 caravan SE and 2000 grand caravan, have ever needed the brake to shift from park. was it only an option on the autostick models or something?

It's not really a concern for me, i use the parking brake all the time, apply and release it in nuetral. kind of a habit i picked up from my dad.

Just curious, only dodge i've ever drivin' that requires the brake to shift from park is my dad's caliber, and that has the autostick.

All my vehicles I have had required the brake to be depressed to shift out of park. Maybe it is correct the way it is. still I am going to do some investigation on this.

as far as the above advise goes. I found the brake switch. How do you ensure it is operating properly? And after that where exaclty is the solenoid located and could you give a brief discription of it to assist in locating this.

I am not sure they brake interlok before 2001 when the redesign came out. Had a 96 and that did not have brake interlok.
