SORRY ITS SPLIT INTO PIECES FOR SOME REASON IT WOULDNT LET ME POST IT ALL IN ONE.

ok heres a little history. vehicle is a 93 caravan with a 3.0L. im an underbody specialist so i have very little knowlege of engines. we picked it up from a co-worker of mine who never had a problem with it other than the trans needing replaced at bout 87k (100k on now). when we got it 4 months ago everything was fine. all we have been doing to it is regular needs. we put a starter in it which i found out is common on those since the valve covers leak on them. then it started running really rough and stalling bout a month ago or so. well i put plugs, wires, cap, rotor and i cleaned out the manifold really good with intake cleaner. van ran AMAZING.

 

then a couple weeks ago it started sputtering while driving. well i told her to start using a higher grade gas cause its the same problem my dad had with his. well it started runnign a little better. well the other night we left it at her moms house and when we picked it up later that night it started just fine and puffing a little black smoke for a couple min. well the next morning she went to go to work and it started and ran really rough for a min and died. wouldnt start back up. i got home and pulled the wire off the coil and stuck a screw driver in it to see if there was any spark when i put the wire on the screw driver. nothing. so i had my mastertech come over with his Scope. well he ran some tests on the pickup coil cause thats what he thought was causing some problems and it passed 1 test and failed 3 others. the graphs that he was showing me had what it was suppose to be doing when u crank it and it wasnt doing anything. he tested the resistance on the coil and it was 0 and the Scope said it was suppose to be .95-1.05 or something around that. so for kicks i got a new one last night and it didnt do anything. kinda figured that since the pickup coil wasnt working right either. still dont get how both of them went out at once. he thinks the ignition coil has been bad for sometime just hadnt kicked the bucket yet and that was our running problem.

 

well i got the pickup coil today and put it in and well it started but ran really rough and was backfiring though the intake. the way its trying to run seems like its WAY outa time. we checked the marks on the cams and they line up to each other fine but we cant check the crank cause the little plate is so rusted we cant see the markings. we played with the timing a little but it doesnt do any good. i just dont know what to do now.

 

any suggestions would really be nice. im sorta hoping to get this thing running by friday. my mastertech is coming back out with a scanner and his scope to hopefully check some more stuff on it. any suggestions on what to check? hes amazed by how horribly this thing is running hes never seen a problem like this before. the codes that we did get off of it were 22,21 possibly 31 probably missed a blink, and 32.

 

all fixed thanks anyways guys. it had an egr code and sure as hell the egr was stuck open. did a temp block off and now it runs fine.
