Default 1997 Caravan 3.8L valve train noise

The valve train in my 1997 Caravan with 3.8L engine is making a "tapping" noise and seems that there is no oil going up to the valve train. It is a constant noise and the "tapping" goes faster when I rev up the engine. Yesterday, the service engine soon indicator illuminated. Any ideas?

Ignition switch sequenced (all within 5 seconds) from OFF to ON, back to OFF to ON, OFF to ON, leave it there then count the flashing "check engine" light. You'll get a feel for it after a few tries. The resulting sequence is useful. Let the forum know what you got.
