Default bad odor Voyager

I just bought a 2000 grand Voyager, we are very happy with the minivan, it gets pretty good mileage, runs quit and smooth. The problem is a bad odor coming from the vents, if I turn on the AC or heating.
I guess it is dirty evaporator or blocked drain.
Is there an easy way to access the evap, or maybe a trick to correct the problem w/o removing the evap?
thanks

Lightbulb Bad odor

I was reading your post on a bad odor, and remembered thats what happened to me in my 2000 caravan. I took out the seats and cleaned the carpet from front to back and still had the bad odor which seemed to get worse when the heater was turned on. The resolve was to use pinesol at a strong mixture at about one cup in a gallon of hot water and soak the carpet between the front seats and in front of the the passenger seat. Smelled like rotten meat or chicken or wet dog. That did the trick, obviously the last owner had left some leaky garbage bag between the two front seats and in front of the passenger seat. I let the mixture soak in pretty good and then sucked it up with the wet vac. Took a while for the smell from the pinesol to go away but it fixed the problem. I would rather smell the pinesol.
Good luck.
