Yeah, my 2005 Chrysler T&C Touring states no change needed for regular service...yeah right!! I changed it at 30K after our dealer stated it was due, but later read in the owners manual that one wasn't needed. For the cost of a filter and fluid ($40-50) its cheap insurance to do it regularly.

There's no "trick" per say, but what was described above is the preferred method of removing the pan, so the fluid can drain before you remove all the bolts. If it's your first change, you can probably remove every bolt and the pan still won't drop without some "persuasion." The factory likes to glue those things on!

I was assuming there was something in the way. I usually remove most of the bolts, and leave a few loose. Then it's time gently tap the pan with a rubber mallet until it breaks loose.

Is this reasonable?
ATF and filter can't cost that much.

Planning on doing my self, any tips from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
A flush is much different than a change. The flush requires special equipment - it removes ALL of the old fluid where a change only removes what is in the pan. Some recommend a flush. I think that was when the transmissions were not that reliable. I think it is a selling option

On my 2000 Grand I went 140k with no maintenance other than checking level with no problem.
On my 2004 the transmission lunched at 18k, WTH?
On my 2005 I went 103k with no maintenance and no problem.
On my 2008 I will do what I have always done, check the level and drive like it will break tomorrow.

The trans fluid and filter should have change at 15k and a flush at 30k. and another filter change at 45k.
Dude, you must work at one of those quick change shops. Sheesh!
