Default has anyone done other year transmission swap?

the transmission in my '98 just died. (doesn't go into any gear).
(3.8L FWD)

is it possible to swap in a transmission from another year?
what different years would work?

I was looking in ordering catalogs, and every year has a different part number.
does that mean they're significantly different, or that some parts can be transferred
from mine to another 41TE transmission to make it correct?

someone local offered me a factory rebuilt '94 transmission for cheap, and I'm not sure if that would really work ok in my '98.

thanks.

Your best bet would be sticking with the generations of vans. (1996-2000). I think that in 94 the trans was still technically the 604a and the sensors might be all different. A dodge technician would know better than me though. There are many highly intelligent people on this board.

is it possible to change the sensors on a '94 so it matches the '98?
or are they in different location, physical difference, or different number of
them?

BTW, the '94 and my '98 are both 3.8L

The sensors should be in the same physical locations but maybe with different connectors. If they are all the same then in theory they would swap around.

I am not sure on this at all though because I am not a dodge tech nor a transmission guy. Hopefully someone will chime in with more knowledge than me on this question.

I can't remember why, but I believe the swap has to be 96-2000. I believe there is some physical difference beyond the sensors. I believe 98,99 are a direct swap. If you had the two side by side, you would be able to tell

There are great Dodge techs at "Just Ask .com" The answere will cost you $9 though. Ive used their service for numerous repairs and they have always been terrific. You only pay if the answere helps you.
