Horrible Gas Smell
I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan. The last few days I have noticed a bad fuel smell after I shut it off. When the van is in idle the fumes smell as though they are coming through the vents. Any ideas whats happening?
There was a recall 73155 to install clamps and new gaskets on the fuel rails in the engine compartment. Recall date was Sept 13 2000 and affected about 116,000 vehicles. If you have a 3.3 or 3.8 V6 and not sure if your car was in the recall window, check with your dealer
You need to do a proper computer diagnostic. If you're up to it, you can buy or borrow an ECU analyzer, not sure if your car uses OBD/OBD2 or CAN but most of these generic analyzers can communicate in both protocols - but make sure you find out which protocol your vehicle uses.

checking the codes is not going to help fine a fuel leak . ck the fuel rail for leaks there is a recall for a fuel rail problem. call the dealer give him your vin they can tell you if the recall applys to your van. If you you have a fuel leak dont drive it have it towed unless you want it to burn to the ground the recall # is 895 there is also a recall on the gas tank seal #845 the dealer can tell you all the open recalls for your van
