Question on stalling problem
Hello,
I am new to the forum and would appreciate any advice on my stalling problem. I have a 1994 250 van w/ CNG 5.2L V8. I just bought this van and have been experiencing a stalling problem after abour 30 mins of driving. The van will not restart even after an hour or two but usually does start in a few hours or by the next day. Currently I am unable to get the van to start at all, this time it died after only 5-10mins. I strongly suspect it is the CRANK POSITION SENSOR which I plan on replacing as soon as I get the time but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or has experienced a similar problem. I am including more info below:
- The van has stalled at 5mph, 55mph and 15mph so far, it does not happen when accelerating, decelerating or coming to a stop it just happens randomly when I am cruising along the road with no warning suddenly the van stalls suddenly, oil pressure immediatlely drops and it won't restart.
- I replaced the air filter, breather, pcv valve, plugs wires, dist. cap and rotor recently but this had did not effect the stalling problem.
- When stalled I can see and hear that gas is being suplied (this is compressed gas so there is a hiss when I push the pedal)
- There IS spark to the plugs when cranking
- Strarter fluid has no effect it still just cranks and won't start.
- The battery is good
- This is a former Washington Gas utility vehicle so there had been many auxilary light and equipment spliced in electronically and I am wondering if there might be a short somewhere.
Thanks for the advice!

A friend of mine had a Ford Windstar van doing the same thing. It turned out it was the aftermarket alarm system the dealership installed. It took him 2 years, several computers, and a lot of grief before it was figured out. Luckily his was still under warranty.
