Default Checking the A/C compressor?

Howdy all.
I just replaced my a/c compressor. there where borken wires on the one I installed. It was very late and I forgot to check my wiring before I installed.
So is there a way to check and make sure the clutch engages before I spend money and fill it up with coolant?
There are the 2 wires coming out iof the compressor. a black one and a white one. If I get power to the compressor, with the clutch click on> and which wire, black or white.

Thanks in advance.

both the old one and the new compressor have white and black wires. I guess I'll just try power to the white and see what happens.

thanks for the help

P.S. anyone know where the blower motor resistor thingy is? my fan only works on high, need to fix that too.

Thanks
