The TCM is located behind the splash shield of the front left wheel well.

okay I thought I had located the TCM I had found a large box in front of the battery with 2 huge plugs in it then after reading the box itself it was not the TCM and going back to the last post I was looking in the wrong location. BTW what is this box infront of the battery it saying something about and software update in 2002 ?? I`ll put everything back together and go to the passenger side for the TCM do I have to get a jack and lift up this side to get to the TCM ??? thanks everyone for the help !!!!

On my '96 the TCM is bolted to the right side fender, (passenger side) and is right in your face as you open the hood.

Default TCM issue

Glad you got it taken care of - it seemed you were having trouble finding it. As I suspected, my problem was the solenoid pack, but I had to pay the dealer $80 to do a diagnostic to confirm it. He wanted another $450 to replace, so I'll be doing it in my own garage.
