Default Front Parking Brake Cable Problem

I am in the process of installing a new parking brake cable (on an '02 GC) as the original snapped at the end where it hooks to the parking brake pedal. Everything seemed to go okay until I got underneath to hook it to the equalizer - the cable is 6" short of reaching it. So, I removed the new cable and laid it side-by-side with the old one to be sure I got the proper cable and they look to be the same length.

I want to make sure I am mounting this right. When the pedal end of the cable is inserted through the bracket below the pedal, the cable should wrap from the backside of the spring, around it, and to the hook correct? If that's the case, then something isn't right because that is what I have been doing and keep coming up 6" short.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sure seems like an awfully hard request for internet armchair mechanics to accomplish. I suppose if we could just transport ourself thru the web and physically do it for you.. you're on your own.

And your statement helps me how so? Rather snide I say. Perhaps it is too difficult for you. If you aren't going to help or cannot help, then don't reply.

it is IMPOSSIBLE to direct the correct orientation of this cable because we can't see what you're doing wrong.

OK, you have it routed incorrectly. reposition the cable on the pedal assembly and it will work.. how that! pretty much as useless as the question

"ever since I worked on my car it's broke, how do I fix it?"

What I am looking for is someone who HAS DONE THIS BEFORE. They'll know what I am describing and looking for - obviously you do not. Now please go troll someone else's thread. And i definitely mean troll. Your join date is this month, yet you already have 106 posts, and from the look of it, most of it armchair dribble.

I've replaced a lot of those cables being in the rust belt causes that. I know exactly what your problem is.

Then you have once again proved your uselessness. Move along if you are unwilling to help.

Default Parking Brake Cable

Go to the AutoZone website, register (it's free) and then select a year and model (try a '96 , my year,as it should be the same as your '02) and then vehicle trouble shooting guide, select brakes and then parking brake and there is an entire text and picture guide to the R&R of the parking brake. Hope this helps and ends the nasty dialogue on this subject.

Thanks for the info Vabear, but I already looked at that and it has nothing that addresses how the cable should attach to the pedal. The other end of the system is self explanatory.

This is not warranted nor is it needed and the fact that this attitude shall not continue.

Do you suggest that everyone is full scale certified mechanic here? Glad I never made it to your shop!

Now stop the additude and play nice......
