Default ECU Harness? 2002 Caravan

I have tried a number of solutions for a rough-running engine, maybe somebody can help point me in the right direction?

Our Caravan became difficult to start as the morning temperatures dipped here in the last few weeks. A local mechanic looked at my rough running 3.3L, did a tune-up and replaced a coolant sensor. The next morning it was again difficult to start.

Another mechanic in the shop took a closer look and decided the ECU was at fault. He explained a little about what kind of adjustments the ECU should be making to the fuel mix, etc. We started the van, he tapped the ECU with a hammer and the engine began to cough. Another tap and it ran better.

To shorten this a little, I found a compatible ECU at a junkyard and put it in. I took it for a drive and it ran beautifully! Even the air bag light (which had been popping on here and there for over a year,) didn't come on. (I suspect the airbag light has been an indicator that something has been wrong with the electronics for some time.)

The next day, and for the past week, the airbag light returned and the engine has been very difficult to start. I touched some wires on the ECU's lower harness and sometimes the engine quits.

Beyond this, i am at a loss of what to do next. Is my problem the ECU? Is it a wire harness issue? Is a separate sensor somewhere to blame?

I'd lean toward the junkyard ECU except that when I first hooked it up it ran like brand new.

Any input would be welcome. Thank you.

You already answered your own question. sure sounds like a wiring/pin issue. One of the first things the shop manuals always state it to inspect harness for damaged or pushed out pins
