Default How much can a 2002 Caravan Tow?

My rig is an 02 with a 3.8L engine and AWD if that matters. I do not have the tow package but I have installed an oversized tranny cooler. The manufacturer says 3000lbs but didn't get specific. I would like to know the maximum safe load for one time short trip super careful type deals and also what the max I would want to pull on a regular basis. Both with or without load leveling hitch.

Well if you ever looked at the sheet metal of a frame that you attach a trailer hitch, I think 3000# is generous!!! But heck a WWII army Jeep with 4cyl flat head engine was capable of towing a 52ton rail car at 25mph (quote from Driving Passion video #2)

I can't say on your van but I tow a 2500 pound race car and 1800 pound
trailer with my old 97 Voyager with 3.0. You have to watch the hills but
other then that it's a nice stable tow platform.

Stay out of OD if you need to give it any power, it will slip.

I towed my Dodge avenger stockcar on a 1000# trailer with a 1990 grand caravan 3.0 overdrive. I had trailer brakes and a breakaway. I wouldn't recommend towing this much unless you are absolutely a skilled driver. One day, on the expressway, a guy pulling a 30' camper with a Dodge Ramcharger went blowing by me at over 80mph, 2 miles later the whole rig was splattered all over the highway and both the driver and passenger were ejected and killed. So if you want to tow with a minivan, and want to be safe, don't overload it, have trailer brakes for anything over 1500#

Oh yeah, don't even think about towing w/o trailer brakes! I also have
a sway control and load leveler bars on mine. It really does tow nice,
one of the most stable cars I've towed with. It's just under powered.

The 3.8 should be alot stronger then my 3.0, the 4 speed auto also has
much better gearing then my 3 speed does.
