Default Most reliable generation Caravan

What say you all? Which generation vans have OVERALL been the most reliable or have the least problems?

I'm speaking of more than just transmission issues, consider all the lesser things like A/C compressors, window regulators etc etc.

If this question has already been raised then I submit myself for 40 lashes with a wet noodle.

The BEST most relaible, least problems (NONE) was my 1994 plymouth voyager 2.5 5speed. Not one thing ever went wrong in the 6 years I owned it and it had 280,000 miles when I sold the van. Infact I sold it for $400 more than I paid for it.

I have a 2006 caravan 3.3. It was an ex-rental car with 9k on and 9 months old when I bought it. It had sat in the dealers lot for 4 months or so unwanted. Now up to 44k and just had a power steering issue solved with a fluid change. Apart from that, it had a new alternator under warranty but that's it. It has been serviced every 3k and has always started first turn of the key even when its -30F outside. I've never even bothered to plug in the block heater. So, I guess I can't really complain. The engine is harsh and noisy at high RPM. Just one thing to note. When it gets really cold, around town the gas mileage plummets to around 14mpg. Got 26mpg when it was driven up from FL to NY at 60mph fully loaded. Would I buy another one? Sure. Send me a check Obama !! ( I did just get a letter from Dodge telling me that they will honor the rear air conditioning evap for 7 years after registration date due to quality problems )

After beating on many Caravans from the first 3 generations, I would have to say second has by far out done the others.
Between myself and my bud we have 4 of them we use for work and they get abused more than most farm trucks.
My current wreck is a 92 with 585k on it. Our wives drive them till they are beat then we work them for another 300k or untill the body falls off. I'll be looking for another early to mid 90's soon. 95 being the cut off. lol

Thanks for the replies so far. I've heard that the 3rd gens aren't without problems...seems the 2nd gen may be the best overall but wanted to hear more feedback.

Although I do own a 2nd gen I love the styling of the 3rd. ARG!

'89 Caravan - A604 tranny: 'nuff said.

Went down the Ford aisle with the Windstar in '95; was the worst vehicle decision I've ever made.

When the Windstar died in our driveway, we bought the '03 GC Sport. It saw quite a bit of warranty repairs (minor stuff), and there's some nagging little crap like electrical, body fit issues, and rear hatch opener issues, but it has served us well for over 110k miles. Hoping to keep it for another 110k.

I have an 04 GC SXT with 120000 miles. This has been a great family vehicle. I really have no complaints. I service it every 3000 miles and it just keeps on going. I had an 87 Caravan many years ago that had the computer replaced and it didn't run right after that. I'm glad I went back to a Caravan after all these years.
