Need new tires
I'm starting to like this guy.I just went to the junkyard and found a very nice van with like brand new tires on it (with C4C drawn on the windshield... hmm I wonder where it came from). So I bought all 4 new tires with aluminum rims for $150. They are Michellin's... I feel this was better than spending $600 for 4 tires. And they are already mounted and balanced. I then tool my old wheels and tires, pulled the tires off the rims and scrapped the old rims for $38 in junk aluminum.. So in total my investment for 4 nearly brand new tires $112
Come on, you never heard of a junk yard? don't you have any near you? Do you know how to use a phone book? I'm sure that the shipping costs from where I am to you would exceed the cost you can just buy some brand new tires!!!!
Helluva deal. Although Michelins are generally very good and safe tires I find that they're one of the harder riding of the major brands.
Nothing wrong with a firm controlled ride motions, it's impact harshness that I can't abide by. Think: initial shock from a pothole as opposed to the ride quality floating down a highway.
It's that bang you get when hitting a pothole that I find annoying. BMW historically was one of the better tuned suspensions as they offered very decent handling WITHOUT the harshness. On the other end of the scale: a 70's Cadillac, while very smooth riding, had all the control of spastic having an epileptic fit while strapped to a paint mixer.

Just bought 4 new all weather Firestones with a 65000 mile warranty fro $425 from Firestone. Includes install and road side assistance and tire repair. They told me the alignment was off and I got the lifetime alignment package for $159. I didn't notice any uneven tire wear but this will be first check in the 36,000 miles I have owned the van. If anyone is interested, I got almost 46,000 miles out of the Yokohama factory fit tires. This is the first major expense on the van in the 3 years I have owned it so I guess that can't be too bad.
