Default Air Circulation Problem on 2002 Dodge Caravan

I just read a post about an air recirculation problem on a 2008 Dodge Caravan and was wondering if I might have the same problem this person was experiencing? The post was done on 6/18/2010.

After reading this post, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a 2002 Dodge Caravan has an air recirculation door behind the glove compartment, as the 2008 referenced in the post does? I have not checked this yet, but will in the daytime. Possibly the door is stuck or something like this. Hope the actuator isn't faulty. It worked alright up to a couple of days ago, so don't know why it isn't now. It's kind of nice to use this recirc feature when its 120 degrees, when you first get into the car during the hot summer days. So needless to say, I kind of miss it, so hope to find out whats wrong without a lot of hoopla.

Anyway, if anyone has some info on this for 2002 Dodge Caravan, would appreciate any suggestions. The previous post, that I found did give me a place to start thought. Thanks, and hope to hear from someone.

Every car has a recirculation door. Unfortunately yours is not like the 2008. The actuator for yours is on the bottom of the housing down in the passenger foot well. It is very easy to see and with a mirror you should be able to verify if the door is working as well. I'll post a drawing, the honey comb area is where you look into to see the door.

Both the pictures and the drawing help, however, I am still kind of confused in where exactly to look for this recirculation door & unit. I checked behind the glove box, but that didn't reveal anything. When you say that it is on the floor in the passenger footwell, do you mean that it is underneath the raised portion of the floor near the kickboard. There is a spot, that is raised some, where something like that could set underneath. What do I have to take apart, to get to it, e.g. carpet, moulding etc.? Don't want to ruin the carpet or anything. Thanks for your help.

the black honey comb looking thing is the recirculation unit, the door is inside of it, you can see it move if you hit the re-circulate button while looking at it,
you do not have to remove anything to see it, just open the passenger door, lay on the floor and look up to wards the bottom of the glove box it is sitting under it up against the out side of the van, you will need a flash light and maybe a mirror to be able to see it move, but you will see a black plastic bowl shaped door move inside of the honey comb

Thanks for the clarification on the location of the recirc. unit. I did find it and unfortunately the door is not opening at all when the recirc switch is depressed. So it looks now, like either the actuator has stopped working or something like that. I was hoping that the door may just be stuck, but now it appears to be an electrical problem. Are the actuators very expensive and how much of a problem is it to reinstall another one? I guess, as long as the rest of the AC is working, I can live with that. Anyway, Thanks for your help on this. I do have some other pressing problems such as front disc brake pads that need attention and I may have went too long already on this. Thanks again for your pictures and explanations.
