thx for the quick response. The reason for the need to disconnect the O2 sensors is
to remove the exhaust system in order to replace the power steering pump. do I still need to remove the upstream O2 sensor? I can see it at center of manifold on the firewall side, away from the catalytic converter.

it's a lot easier to move the right axle shaft. just pull the passenger wheel, remove big nut in center of hub, remove 2 spindle to strut bolts, remove outer cv joint from hub. you don't even need to pull the shaft out of the trans. you don't have to worry about alignment, the strut isn't slotted where the bolts go through. takes like 15min to do this. That's how I'd do it if I was a mechanic
